Adding an Endorsement to a License
After a teaching, administrative, or school service personnel license is issued, additional endorsements may be added by submitting an application and meeting the current requirements in Iowa Administrative Code 282-13.26-28.
An updated license with expiration date unchanged from the original or renewed license will be prepared.
- Administrators may apply online to add an endorsement through an Iowa or non-Iowa institution.
- Paraeducators may apply online to add an area of concentration to a paraeducator certificate.
Option 1 - Recommendation
Receive the Iowa education institution’s recommendation that the current approved program requirements or state minimum requirements for the endorsement have been met. Directions to Apply for an Initial Teaching License and Recommended by an Iowa Teacher Preparation Program (235.87 KB) .pdf
Option 2 - State Minimums
Apply for a review of transcripts or out-of-state licensure by the board of educational examiners’ staff to determine whether Iowa requirements have been met. Applicants will have achieved a C- grade or higher in the courses that will be considered for an endorsement. The methods course can be waived if the practitioner holds an endorsement in the same content area at a different level and teaches in the new content area successfully while holding a Class B license.
