Requirements
In accordance with Iowa Administrative Code, 282-22.5, during the term of the initial authorization applicants are required to complete training in all of the following:
- methods of teaching in the endorsement content area or areas
- coursework in human relations
- coursework in the instruction of exceptional learners to include education of individuals with disabilities and gifted and talented
- ethics training

- Limited to the endorsement listed on the authorization.
- Not eligible for conditional licensure.
- Not eligible to add any other endorsement areas.

Yes, if more time is needed to complete requirements.
Directions to Extend an Initial Content Specialist Authorization or Content Specialist Authorization
Renewal
To renew a Content Specialist Authorization, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Renewal Credits: Complete 6 renewal credits and the mandatory reporter training for child abuse.
- Experience: Verify a master’s degree or higher, at least 10 years of PK–12 licensed experience, and completion of the mandatory reporter training for child abuse. Substitute experience may count toward the 10 years if the individual can verify at least 91 days of substitute experience per year of experience.
