Initial School Business Official Authorization

Requirements - First Issuance

1. Position offer as a school business official
2. Associate's degree in business or accounting or 60 semester hours of coursework in business or accounting of which 9 semester hours must be in accounting.
3. Applicants who do not have 9 semester hours in accounting but have at least 6 should contact our office to inquire about a temporary initial school business official authorization.
4. Mandatory reporter training for child abuse.

Term

2 years - will complete a mentoring program through the Iowa School Business Institute. 

A Temporary Initial School Business Official Authorization is valid for one year, during which you will need to complete the accounting credits to reach the 9-credit threshold and you may start the mentoring program through the Iowa School Business Institute.

Authority

Can perform, supervise and be responsible for the overall financial operation of a local school district.

Conversion

Apply for the Standard School Business Official Authorization upon completion of the required coursework.
