Requirements - First Issuance

One year serving as an administrator in an Iowa public school, or two years in an accredited private or out-of-state setting.

Usually Initial Administrator or Administrator Exchange licenses convert to the Professional Administrator License.

Authority

Full administration authority for the grade levels and endorsements listed on the license. Also holds substitute authority including long-term subbing.

Renewals

4 renewal credits which must include an approved evaluator course.  For an applicant who also holds a specialist’s or doctor’s degree, two units are needed.  Mandatory reporter training for child and dependent adult abuse is required.

OR

Verification of a Master's degree or higher, at least 10 years of PK-12 licensed experience, and the mandatory reporter training for child and dependent adult abuse. Evaluator training less than 10 years old is also required to renew an administrator or evaluator license. Substitute experience may count as years of experience if an individual is able to verify at least 91 days of substitute experience per year of experience.

Extension

Yes - if more time is needed to complete renewal requirements.

Other Information

Renewing this license automatically renews the evaluator authority (separate application and fee to renew evaluator not required).
