Requirements - First Issuance

Two years of successful service in a professional service license area in an Iowa public school, or three years in an accredited private or out-of-state setting, and evidence of meeting standards and completed mentoring.

Limited to professional service license areas listed on the license. Can substitute teach in any classroom. Not eligible to add teaching endorsements.

Renewals

4 renewal credits (or 2 renewal credits if the applicant holds a doctor's or specialist's degree) and the mandatory reporter training for child abuse.

OR

Verification of a Master's degree or higher, at least 10 years of PK-12 licensed experience, and the mandatory reporter training for child abuse. Substitute experience may count as years of experience if an individual is able to verify at least 91 days of substitute experience per year of experience.
