The school nurse may create a school emergency response team kit (SERT-K). Also, schools may have policies surrounding specific stock emergency medication in the name of a district or school that may be in the SERT-K.
The school should have a written protocol shared with administration on SERT activation, roles, responsibilities, transportation of individuals (if applicable), and the following related to the SERT-K, to include:
- Access: Who is allowed to access and use components of the kit (The school nurse and SERT),
- Inventory: An inventory of what is in the kit,
- Security: How it will be secured,
- Supply Restock: When it will be restocked (Identify SERT member or school personnel per kit or by building),
- Monthly Logs: Who and When will complete documentation of monthly monitoring for expiration of contents (if applicable),
- Location: Where the emergency kit will be located.
