Steps

  1. The school nurse delegates emergency medication administration.
  2. The delegatee (school personnel) have completed the medication administration online course and have completed an annual skills demonstration with the school nurse listed in A-K of this document.
  3. The school nurse has signed the medication administration certificate.
  4. The delegatee has reviewed the school board approved stock medication school policy.
  5. The delegatee has demonstrated competency on how to administer the emergency medication(s) using steps in the course and awareness video(s):
    1. Voluntary Stock Epinephrine Auto-Injector Awareness Video (2023)
    2. Voluntary Stock Bronchodilator Awareness Video (2023)
    3. Voluntary Stock Opioid Antagonist Awareness Video (2022)
  6. The delegatee is able to identify signs and symptoms indicating when the voluntary emergency medications should be administered and knows to call 911.
  7. The delegatee is able to demonstrate competency with the school nurse in the school’s protocol of communication and documentation.
  8. The delegate and school nurse have signed the consent and delegation form.
  9. The delegatee understands that they must report the administration of stock epinephrine use or stock bronchodilator use to the Department of Education within 48 hours of administration using the reporting format below:
    1. Stock Epinephrine Auto-Injector Reporting Form
    2. Stock Bronchodilator or Bronchodilator Canister Use Reporting Form
  10. The delegatee demonstrates competency in how to dispose of used emergency medication.
  11. Documentation of delegation is completed by the school nurse.
