Iowa School Nurse Mentorship Program
The School Nurse Mentorship Program is a one year voluntary commitment that connects school nurses in years 0-3 of practice with experienced school nurse mentors in year 4 or beyond, with nurse supervisor or administrator approval. Through this structured mentorship experience, mentees and mentors can earn a total of 5 continuing education hours (CE) while building professional capacity and connecting Iowa's Bold Vision to broader system impact. The first CE offering is provided when the mentor and mentee are matched.
Four additional learning opportunities throughout the school year will be based on the majority of response from the mentor and mentee(s) interest in their registration covering focus on five key areas:
1. Federal programs and compliance leadership
2. Chronic absenteeism and attendance strategies
3. Student mental health and wellness integration
4. School policy and leadership growth
5. System thinking through continuous improvement cycles and Iowa's bold vision The program is designed to strengthen individual practice while empowering school nurses to recognize their role as leaders who influence student health outcomes, school systems and population health.
