What is the Seal of Approval?

Iowa STEM is focused on increasing student interest and achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in Iowa. The task is to prepare STEM-literate students for career paths in the economically vital fields of bioscience (agriculture and health), finance, information technology, advanced manufacturing, and other STEM fields in order to provide a competitive, economic advantage to our communities and state.

But, STEM can happen almost anywhere. It can happen at hackathons, conferences, after-school programs, clubs, events, and more. To enculturate, sustain and spread STEM thinking, the Iowa STEM has created the Seal of Approval to recognize and support select, non-Council programs and events that help achieve Iowa STEM goals.

Who Can Apply?

For now, applications are being accepted for individual programs or periodic events that significantly advance STEM principles and thinking in Iowa communities. Applicants should be unaffiliated with existing Iowa STEM programs. The Seal is not intended for individuals, organizations or institutions.

What Does This Recognition Provide?

The STEM Council's Seal of Approval indicates that your program or event officially advances one of the most progressive state STEM initiatives in the country. As we learn about the needs of the community, this program, and its benefits and offerings, it will continue to grow. We hope that the Iowa STEM's Seal can be leveraged for promotion, funding, and other types of support.

How Does It Work?

All submissions are reviewed by the Seal of Approval committee, a diverse group of community leaders selected by the Iowa STEM. The committee will review applications three times per year: late April, August and December. Upon review, the committee will make its final recommendations to Iowa STEM leaders for approval. If necessary, additional information or interviews may be requested to help the committee inform its decision. The review process may take two to four weeks.
