Annual Public School Building Deadlines

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)-required submissions due. Only the building principal can submit. This includes:

  • Marking the SAMI as "Complete" (any uncompleted SAMI submissions will be removed from the system after the due date);
  • Submitting the ESSA Action Plan Questions for each Targeted and Comprehensive building to the district for approval; and
  • Submitting the ESSA Action Plan Table for each Targeted and Comprehensive building to the district for approval.

Annual Public School District Deadlines

The following table provides both deadlines (bolded), recommended actions to meet those deadlines, and important dates.

At this time, the nonpublic consultation agreements will open for the districts that indicated that transferability may be appropriate. Districts that waived transferability in the spring can also request to re-open the agreement to make edits to the service descriptions.

The Department publishes the dollar amounts for equitable services to the nonpublic school’s students and teachers and notifies the district and nonpublic school when the equitable shares for services information is populated into the nonpublic consultation agreement for the current school year.

Engage in nonpublic consultation to finalize the equitable services that will be provided now that the amounts available for services are populated into the agreement and complete the consultation agreement for the current year by October 1.

Before October 1:

  1. Revisit the identified student needs to clarify what services can be provided based on the prioritized needs and the amount available to provide those services.
  2. The district acts based on its response in the spring agreement regarding transferability:
    • If transferability was waived in the spring, the district may request to re-open the consultation agreement to make edits to the service descriptions and submit it for nonpublic review.
    • If the spring agreement indicated that transferability may be appropriate, the LEA must enter whether it will transfer funds into the re-opened agreement and, if appropriate, move services to another program and edit the equitable service descriptions.
  3. If the agreement is re-opened, the nonpublic head administrator must either confirm the accuracy of the information entered into the final agreement or send the agreement back for edits.

Throughout implementation and assessment of equitable service activities

The district (or its third-party contractor) must provide equitable services for the nonpublic school’s students and teachers. The district must maintain control of the public funds and cannot delegate its oversight and implementation responsibilities to the nonpublic school or its officials (nor pay or reimburse the nonpublic school or its staff to provide equitable services).

The district and nonpublic school must continue to engage in nonpublic consultation to ensure effective implementation, service delivery, and assessment of equitable services (ESEA §§ 1117(b)(3) & 8501(c)(3)).

Preliminary LEA Nonpublic Consultation Agreement due in the Consolidated Application for the upcoming school yearThe agreement requires the nonpublic school to indicate whether its students will participate in equitable services for the upcoming school year. The district must also decide whether it may be appropriate to exercise transferability in the fall based on the needs the nonpublic school identified and prioritized before consultation.

The district must complete and submit the initial agreement for nonpublic review, and the nonpublic school must confirm the agreement is accurate by this date (see the Equitable Services for Nonpublic Students: Process and Procedures guidance for more information). Once the head nonpublic school administrator confirms the agreement, participation and transferability decisions cannot be changed.
