The Information Systems CTE strand prepares students for careers that design, build, secure, and support the digital systems that power all aspects of modern life. By extending foundational computer science learning through authentic, career-focused experiences, students gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in postsecondary education, the workforce, and a rapidly changing computing-powered world.

Foundational Computer Science

Provides information about foundational computer science programming for every K-12 student.

Provides information about IRCs and the Approved IRC List.
Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund Grant

Helps schools pay for computer science (CS) professional learning or university coursework for CS teaching endorsements.

Standards

Specialized CTE-IS Program Standards were developed by a team of IT experts from Iowa’s community colleges, four-year public and private colleges and universities, Iowa STEM Council, the Technology Association of Iowa, and business and industry.

Coding and Data Collection Guidelines

Determining which computer science offerings should be used to fulfill the offer-and-teach requirements and which should be a part of the CTE-IS strand can be difficult. The Computer Science Coding and Data Collection Guidelines (248.96 KB) .pdf provide guidance as to the differences and similarities between the two types of programs. Iowa also has approved Iowa Career and Technical Education CIP Codes (640.56 KB) .xlsx that should be used when reporting CTE approved programs.
