CTE Standards
  1. Foundational standards and benchmarks have been updated and modernized by a team of IT experts from Iowa’s community colleges, four-year public and private colleges and universities, Iowa STEM Council, the Technology Association of Iowa, and business and industry.
  2. The Iowa Department of Education established specific Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code identifiers for the four career pathways mentioned above and will be offering webinars for school districts to learn more.
  3. The Bureau of Educational Examiners (BoEE) has created the 5-12 CTE Information Technology endorsement which requires new teachers to take 12 credits of computer science to teach in this area. For teachers who are not currently CTE instructors or enrolled in CTE Education Programs, CTE courses are also be required. The Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund is available to help teachers earn their endorsement.
