Looking for ideas to teach about the Constitution in observance of United States Constitution Day on Sept. 17? We have you covered.
Congress enacted legislation requiring all public schools to set aside one day to teach students about the U.S. Constitution. Since the 17th is on a Sunday, public schools may have their program this week or next.
The purpose of Constitution Day is to commemorate the creation and signing of the supreme law of the land and to honor and celebrate the privileges and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship for both native-born and naturalized citizens.
Sept. 17 is significant because it marks the day when delegates to the Constitutional Convention met in 1787 for the last time to sign the document they had created.
